Michael Manning creates work that balances abstract and concrete images in a spontaneous energetic fashion. The dynamic use of brush strokes and drawing is complimented by the spiritual, reflective nature of his subject matter. Many of his paintings are references to religious, historical and symbolic figures. His collaboration with Reiner Gramlich and Eckhard Zylla has deepened Michael's interest in spontaneity and abstraction. He views how he paints as primary. The subject matter is something that adds new levels of interest and exploration, and these elements together are the focus of the paintings. He is currently working on a new series called Contradictions.
